Sam Rasoul: Young Arab American Democrat

One of the youngest candidates to run for Congress in the nation’s history and the first Democratic challenger to receive district-wide support since 1992, Sam Rasoul is a rising force. On May 24, 2008 he became the official Democratic nominee for the 6th District of Virginia.

Former AAI Field Director Named to Top Post in Michigan Young Democrats

Kenwah Dabaja, AAI’s former Michigan Field Director, was recently appointed regional director for the Michigan Young Democrats (MYD) in the state’s 13th, 14th and 15th congressional districts. In her voluntary post, Dabaja will be responsible for membership recruitment, outreach and development in the three districts, represented by key Democratic members of congress: Carolyn Kilpatrick, John Conyers and John Dingell.

Each year, the Arab American Institute Foundation (AAIF) awards scholarships and cash awards to deserving Arab American students in recognition of their achievements and for the pursuit of their future studies. We’d like to introduce you to the 2007 scholarship and award recipients in this special edition of Arab Americans on the Move, recognizing the next generation of Arab American leaders.

Arab American Heads Up Obama Effort in Scott County, IA

AAI member Mehdi Alhassani is currently working as a field organizer for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in Scott County, IA. The county consists of both urban areas, including Davenport, and rural ones. Alhassani is a former member of AAI’s Youth Council and a recent graduate of George Washington University.
